AVID Senior Cali Trip – Day 3 Recap

Day 3 focused on college exposure, new experiences, and meaningful conversations.

We left Anaheim with our driver Brian, who continued to take great care of our group. On the way to UCLA, he drove us through neighborhoods in Beverly Hills before dropping us off on campus. He will also be our driver as we return to LAX on Day 4.

Once we arrived, we dropped off our luggage at the UCLA Luskin Conference Center, located next to the UCLA practice football field. We then headed to a campus dining hall for lunch and spent time exploring a campus that felt very different from what many of our students are used to, including lots of rolling hills.

After lunch, we stopped in a large grassy area where UCLA students gather. Our AVID seniors were challenged to step outside their comfort zones by introducing themselves to current UCLA students and asking questions such as why they chose UCLA, what they enjoy about it, and what challenges they have experienced. This gave our students the opportunity to hear directly from college students and gain a broader perspective.

We then returned to check into our hotel before heading to the Santa Monica Pier. We arrived just in time to watch the sunset, which was a memorable way to end the day.

Day 3 wrapped up a full day of learning and exploration as we prepare to head home on Day 4.

AVID Senior Cali Trip – Day 2 Recap

Day 2 was nothing short of magical! Our seniors spent the day at Disneyland, making the most of every moment from morning to night.

We started the day enjoying rides, exploring the park, and soaking in the Disney experience together. In the afternoon, students participated in a 3-hour Disney Leadership Program, where they learned what it takes to lead with purpose, build strong teams, and create excellence—Disney style!

For dinner, we enjoyed a New Orleans-themed restaurant that brought great food and a fun atmosphere to wrap up the evening.

By the end of the night, we had walked 10+ miles—proof of a full, fun, and unforgettable day!

Day 3, here we come!

Before the sun was even up, our seniors were already on the move—meeting bright and early at the Hobbs airport to kick off an unforgettable journey! We flew from Hobbs to Denver and then on to LAX, with a little turbulence along the way. For some of our first-time flyers, it was definitely a new (and slightly nerve-wracking!) experience—but they handled it like pros.

Once we landed in LA, we headed to Spartan Aeronautics and Technical College in Inglewood, where students got an up-close look at aviation mechanics. It was incredible to see the inner workings of the very planes we had just trusted to get us safely across the country. One big takeaway? Strong math skills are essential in these high-demand careers!

From there, we made our way to Anaheim, checked into our hotel, and took some time to unwind—poolside relaxation, quick bites, and some much-needed rest after a full day of travel and learning.

We’re recharged and ready because Day 2 brings an exciting Disney Leadership experience! Stay tuned…
