That floating spot you notice in bright light is a floater. It happens when the gel-like tissue inside your eye (the vitreous humor) changes over time. Most floaters are harmless.
A sudden shower of them, flashes, or a shadow off to the side is different and should be examined promptly, since it can signal retinal detachment.
The encouraging part: diet, nutrients, and lifestyle all influence the health of the vitreous.
