Just because a child CAN learn something does not mean it’s developmentally appropriate for them.
Research is clear- children who learn a skill at a different time than peers do not show any disadvantages later on.
I’ll use my own family as an example. I have three siblings. We all learned to read on the spectrum between the ages of 4-11. Now we’re all adults and we all enjoy reading. Does it matter who learned when? Nope.
Eventually, we level out. But the difference is that for kids who are pushed, there is a very real risk of deep resentment towards the person, the skill, the subject, or worst of all - learning as a whole.
Lesson: TRUST YOUR CHILD 💚
