You've heard of Lactic Acid, right? That when you exercise, the fatigue in your muscles is related to it's buildup (leading to that 'sore' feeling)?
-Did you know that Lactic Acid (bacteria) is also a product of food fermentation and can have positive impacts on our gut health?
-Research is showing that the food we eat, the exertion we perform and our gut microbiome (the bacteria that reside and makeup our healthy gut bacteria) are all communicating.
--Last thought- have you ever jumped, head first into a workout program, thinking that the more intense workouts with little days off will result in better outcomes? Then within a couple weeks you catch a cold, feel really run down, or maybe even end up with a soft tissue injury (swollen knee, back discomfort, etc.).
-This goes back to the original point of the muscle-gut-brain communication. Over exertion leads to increased inflammation. The inflammation leads to increased gut permeability, allowing toxins to enter our system, making us sick and more prone to injury.
----Whats the best option? I would say the research suggests that we should be making slow and gradual changes. Ensuring that we are transforming our habits in a recognizable way that our body can adjust to. Allowing for recovery. Reducing guilt on 'days off'.
Ensuring proper Nutrition and Hydration, WITHOUT over-RESTRICTION because that almost always leads to failure.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences. :)
