Fetal station is very significant. Especially when its time to push.
Fetal station is measured by the top of the bony part of the baby's head in relation to the Ischial (i·skee·uhl) spine.
An imaginary line is drawn between the two bones in the pelvis (the Ischial spine), and this line is considered the zero station.
If the baby's presenting part is above zero, its considered negative ( -1 to -3)
Anything below zero is considered positive (+1 to +3)
In a first time mom, the descent into the pelvis and dilation should happen in tandem. But what happens when you are 10cm dilated but the baby is at a 0 or -1?
This usually means you'll probably push for a long time and you'll feel like you ran a 5k during each increment. It could take you HOURS to push from a -1 to a +1.
SO, WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
If the baby is stable and showing no signs of distress, ask to LABOR DOWN.
Laboring down means that you are allowing your body to move the baby down into the pelvis passively.
I have labored women down until they are +2, and as a first time parent, they only push for a short period. They aren't exhausted or discouraged when they deliver! WIN- WIN! Its awesome!

Getting ready to spoil a mama to be this weekend ! 😍
Baby shower gift tip:
Since a baby shower is all about showering the baby, be different, try to gift mom or dad as well. Most of the time we are so focused on what the baby needs, that we don’t realize mom (and dad) need post partum gifts too!
Maxi pads, cleansing wipes, a refillable water bottle, tea, straws, heating pad. These are all great gifts for a post partum momma.
Headache reliever, muscle rub, a mug, a recipe book. These are great gifts for dad.
Try doing this for a change the next time you’re invited to a baby shower. 😁

I KNOW ITS HARD MAMA.
I know its hard to get up every morning and have these little people rely on you. I know its hard to feel like sometimes your world is so small. I want to remind you, YOU ARE THE WORLD 🌎. You are the world that those little ones revolve around. You are their nurture, their home 🏡, and their comfort. You are everything to them, and i hope that even on your hard days that you know how special you are. Especially to your little people. 💕
“There is no need to apologize!” I say this at probably every birth I attend.
You don't need to apologize for the natural ways your brain and body respond to labor. You do what you need to do bring your baby earthside.
