My Grandma Rose was 4’11 with fiery red hair and a temper to match.
In 1929, during the stock market crash, her father came home devastated. He believed they had lost the family farm.
But Grandma Rose calmly informed him she had secretly been paying ahead on the mortgage for years because she had learned from the stories passed down about the Great Famine in Ireland.
The farm was saved.
Years later, when my daughter was panicking about the cost of college and afraid for the future, I told her this story.
Because sometimes the greatest gift we can give our kids isn’t money or certainty.
It’s reminding them what they’re made of.
The women in our family figure things out. ❤️
