If you ever get to witness a Great Gray Owl on the hunt, you’ll never forget it!

This is a uncommon dark-phase mountain coyote. Unlike the lighter, slimmer prairie coyotes most people are used to, some mountain coyotes carry old wolf-era genetics that give them thicker fur, darker coats, and a heavier build making them look almost like small wolves, especially in winter.

It’s hard for me to pick favorites for 2025. I don’t spend much time judging my own work. With that being said these are a few moments from 2025 that felt special to me. Another year of growth that I’m grateful for. Can’t wait to see what the next year brings!

Photographing moments like this can be intense and serious. No trees for cover, nowhere to run... Just experience, awareness, and reading behavior. These animals are wild, unpredictable, and deserving of space and respect. Remember don’t let excitement override judgment!

Beyond excited to finally capture a moment like this. Still learning, always growing, and incredibly grateful for experiences like these.
