Roots and Routes Jodi
After our lunch cruise on the Miss Augusta, we headed back to Mount Pleasant Estates and discovered there’s a lot more here than great wine.
Founded in 1859 by German immigrants, Mount Pleasant survived Prohibition, helped establish Augusta as America’s first federally recognized wine region, and still features its original hand-dug limestone cellars built in 1881.
We toured the underground cave, learned about the Angel’s Share—the wine that naturally evaporates during aging—and walked among massive historic oak barrels while hearing stories about the winery’s past.
Then we stepped outside to views overlooking the Missouri River Valley and the same river corridor traveled by Lewis & Clark more than 200 years ago.
History, wine, and one incredible view. 🍷🌊❤️
Missouri: “You wanted to plant these in the field?”
Also Missouri: “Here’s another thunderstorm.” 🌧️🙃
So the Apricotta cosmos got upgraded to bigger pots until Mother Nature quits micromanaging my flower farm.
I bought pond netting to protect my fish, not to run security for the neighborhood wildlife. 😂
This frog was absolutely convinced my pond was his new home. He was so determined to get in that he sagged the net into the water and forced me to tighten the whole thing back up.
The netting works great. It just turns out the first animal it kept out wasn’t the one I expected.
Sir, this is a gated community. Residents only. 🐸🚫
If you’re curious about the pond netting, it’s linked in my Amazon storefront. Link in bio!
