Today, after more than three decades of service, The Kids’ Breakfast Club closes its doors. It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to work alongside extraordinary volunteers, educators, and community partners to connect Hayward children and families to nutrition, learning, and opportunities when school was out of session. To every volunteer who woke up early, flipped pancakes, mentored a child, organized activities, or simply showed up year after year: thank you! Your generosity made this mission possible.

And to the thousands of children and families who were part of The Kids’ Breakfast Club, thank you for trusting us with your spring breaks, winter breaks, and so many wonderful mornings filled with laughter, friendship, and memories. You gave this organization its purpose.

While this chapter comes to a close, the impact of The Kids’ Breakfast Club will live on in every child we had the honor to serve.

Today, approximately 30 middle and high school students graduated from the Hayward Police Department’s Youth Academy. The academy included a week long week of learning, leadership, and hands-on experiences. Throughout the week, these young leaders explored careers in public safety, developed teamwork and leadership skills, and participated in activities that introduced them to life-saving strategies and emergency response. These students represent the future of public service in Hayward. They are the next generation of police officers, firefighters, dispatchers, paramedics, and community leaders. They are truly the “bench” that will help keep our city strong for years to come. Congratulations to every graduate, and thank you to the Hayward Police Department for investing in our youth and inspiring the next generation of public servants.
