(KRON4 News) — With more challenges being presented during this heat wave, a mobile home park in the East Bay just got its power back on after being in the dark overnight on Thursday.
“As of 8 o’clock [Thursday], the power went out, and it was off for about 15 minutes, and it came back on for about 30, and then it went off at 9 o’clock,” Erick Erickson, one of the Hayward residents affected, told KRON4.
Erickson said the situation left many unprepared residents vulnerable, including his neighbor.
“I talked with my neighbor next door; their refrigerator is all thawed out, and they don’t have any backup power. She has an autistic child in the home, and she can only feed him certain things. She can’t really feed him much because they don’t have a refrigerator,” Erickson said.
According to PG&E’s outage map, the cause was damaged equipment. PG&E trucks were seen on site along with a utility worker for an underground utility company.
As of 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, power was restored at the Spanish Ranch mobile home, PG&E confirmed with KRON4.
A spokesperson for the utility company says an initial investigation shows the faulty cable is customer-owned, not PG&E’s cable. According to PG&E, when damaged equipment is owned by a customer, it is their responsibility to make repairs.
Erickson is grateful the situation has been resolved, but as for dealing with no power and hot weather, “You can’t,” he continued, “Because where we live, most of the people, especially if they’re in a home as old as mine…it’s all metal, so when the sun hits it, it acts like an over heater.”
“Even on the days we’ve been having up to 95 degrees, it’s still 90 degrees in the house with fans,” he said.
A PG&E spokesperson sent KRON4 the following statement:
“PG&E is working to minimize disruption to residents; as of 1:30 p.m., they turned the mobile home park back on using temporary power. PG&E will remain in close communications with the mobile home park.”

All Spanish Ranch residents must be prepare for a massive flood
I think everyone is tired of this kind of message> I do not understand why the park does not install shut off valves around the park.
Due to a water line break, water will be turned off for the next couple hours for an emergency repair.
We will notify you if there are any updates regarding the repair or if the repair takes longer than the anticipated 2-3 hours.
