Well, the long awaited 1st Sidney BRC day 1 is in the books! We have a wide range of students ranging from zero experience, to some dirt experience, to many years and just wanting to dust off old skills in this class.
Mid way through day 1, our students have developed sufficient skill and confidence to create some pretty impressive lean angles while completing our "Cornering Judgent" exercise. Pressing to initiate lean and eyes on the prize gets us through the gate every time!

FROM THE DIRECTOR, MMRS:
Interested in teaching motorcycle rider safety? Please consider joining us at Montana Motorcycle Rider Safety (MMRS).
For over 40 years, Montana Motorcycle Rider Safety (and its previous iterations) has provided high-quality Motorcycle Safety Foundation training to thousands of riders all across this great state. In addition, riders traveled as far as Calgary, Denver, Spokane, and Cody to attain training from us last year. Riding teachers are constantly learning with continuing education. Our teachers are trained so well that when they occasionally travel from their home site to a sister site to teach with other teachers, they teach classes so seamlessly that students never know they have not taught together before. Our ranges offer some of the most realistic training possible. And our relationships with city, county, state, education, and industry partners is second to none.
We currently teach in 8 locations and are always looking to open new training sites. Oh, by the way, MMRS is returning to a prior teaching site soon. Our riding coaches came through and found a new teaching site. We consistently demonstrate the capability to take MSF’s Basic RiderCourse class-in-a-box and drive it 400 miles across the state including 16 motorcycles and everything else needed to teach a class. Ask anyone in Sidney how that works. Or Glendive. Or Havre. Want us to come to you? Just help us find us a piece of concrete approximately the size of a football field where we can teach, and we’ll do the rest.
But I need your help. My cadre of teachers could be larger. When that site that starts with a “B” reopens, my teachers are going to be stretched thin. We are looking for new teachers who can talk the talk and walk the walk. We are looking for men and women who consistently demonstrate the skills, wear the gear, and have the heart of a teacher on the range and off. We aren’t necessarily looking for expert riders, or riders who’ve been riding 30 years, but we’ll take those too. We are looking for folks who have a passion to ride, and especially, to teach. Our trainers will teach you to how we want you to ride for students, and how to effectively teach teens and adults. And then we’ll pair you up with teachers across the state to learn additional tips and tricks.
Our teachers are compensated well, but that’s not why they do it. They do it because they love it. You’ll also be compensated for minor maintenance work you may be asked to do outside of class. You’ll be compensated for travel and hotel stays (within reason). You’ll have access to discounts at dealerships and vendors. The industry takes care of the teachers who make the industry safer. You can enjoy seeing our great state traveling on our dime. See the dinosaur museum or Grizzly Experience in Bozeman after class. Visit the hot springs in Helena. Or bring the family to the zoo and water park (or that giant Scheels) in Billings while you teach. Ride through Glacier National Park on the way home from Kalispell.
If you are, or you know of someone who may be interested in joining us, contact me. Or contact one of our teachers. You’re not under any obligation by inquiring how to become a teacher, what the process looks like, or what the benefits are. The training class is June 4-12 in Havre, Montana this year. If interested the number is 800-922-2453 and or more information is of our home page http://motorcycle.msun.edu/becomeacoach.htm
We hope to hear from you soon! As always, keep those heads and eyes up, always looking out.

On behalf of the Director, coaches, and staff, I'd like to congratulate Ms. Darlene "DarDar" Booth on her much-earned retirement from the Richland County MVD.
For those who didn't know, Ms. Booth was instrumental in MMRS bed-down in Sidney, facilitating access to high-quality motorcycle safety training to all of Eastern Montana. Because of her recent hard work with Richland county commissioners, the potential exists for even more training in Sidney next year.
If you're in Sidney, please stop in and congratulate Darlene. If you can't get there, please pass on well wishes here, as she follows us actively. We wish her nothing but joy and success in whatever her future brings her. We hope her next chapter in life brings her great joy and relaxation!
