Indiana-Based Company Victim of COVID-19 Business Email Compromise,

April 2020

(U//FOUO) The FBI is sharing this information to increase awareness of fraud schemes related to the COVID19 pandemic. In mid-April 2020, an unidentified fraud actor compromised an identified Indiana-based business'
electronic mail account. The actor redirected payments from an identified Illinois-based customer. The fraud
actor stated the business could not accept check payments due to a partial bank closure and health concerns
surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, and directed the customer to send ACH or wire payment to Wells Fargo
account 1864066855, routing number 121000248, Swiftcode WFBIUS6S.

FBI Comment: The FBI encourages businesses and individuals to report instances of potential fraud to IC3
(www.ic3.gov). In the case of sensitive business or personally identifying information (PII) being provided to
unknown actors, the FBI recommends preemptively ensuring such actions are correct via direct communication.
If a suspicious transaction has already occurred, immediately contact the financial institutions involved to
request a SWIFT recall or an ACH reversal of suspected transactions. In addition, request the financial
institution prepare a Hold Harmless Letter to indemnify the beneficiary institution.
