I'll tell you my biggest pet peeve in this whole business. Companies that paint the word COLLABORATION on a wall and call it done. That doesn't read as collaborative. It reads like a hostage note from the marketing department. And everyone walking past it knows.

Let me give you the actual framework instead. You don't start with design. You start with behavior.

Take collaboration. Before you draw a single thing, you ask one question. When this company collaborates at its best, what are people actually doing? For us, it means sales, design, production, and install are aligned early. People can see project status at a glance. Problems get solved before they ever hit the field.

So collaboration isn't just "working together," it's shared visibility plus cross-functional problem-solving plus fewer handoff failures. Now you've got something you can actually design for.

That looks like a central hub showing every active project. A material library that's open and organized. Pinnable surfaces for design concepts. Writable walls. Huddle zones for a two-minute alignment instead of a two-hour meeting. None of it needs the word on the wall. People just feel it, and then they do it.

Run this exercise. List your three core values. For each one, write the behavior it creates when it's actually happening. Then ask what in the space would make that behavior easier. That's your design brief. Everything else is decoration.
