Congratulations to the students in CS 456: Computer Architecture on completing their poster projects exploring topics in processor architecture design! Over the past few weeks, students researched and presented a wide range of subjects from throughout the semester, including dynamic branch prediction, virtual machines, pipelining techniques, GPU design, and other special topics in computer architecture. Great work everyone!

We are happy to honor the remarkable career of Dr. Sharon Simmons as she begins her well‑earned retirement!!
We asked Dr. Simmons: What has been your favorite course to teach at JMU, and why?
"I've enjoyed all the classes I taught for different reasons. From the classes I have taught recently, CS261 is one of my favorites. Students have been accepted into the major and have a foundation in programming. With this background, we are able to explore the details of how the underlying computing system works. Although some students regard the class as challenging, I also see students excited to understand how software interacts with hardware. I find CS261 particularly rewarding when students ask questions about software performance, and when they realize this knowledge helps them to be better software engineers."

One piece of advice to her students: "Have fun exploring how computers work, whether software or hardware, or both πŸ™‚"

You will be sincerely missed, Dr. Simmons! Congratulations! πŸ₯πŸ’œ

We want to give a huge congratulations to our amazing CS Ambassador, Julian, on graduating this spring!

Julian's favorite class at JMU was CISE 480. He said "Being able to work on an interdisciplinary team to solve a prevalent issue that groups in the military face is incredible!" Outside of class, he likes to spend time outside doing something active, like playing lacrosse or disc golf, running, or grilling.

"After graduation, I plan to enjoy the summer before I hopefully commission as an officer in the US Military", said Julian.

Congratulations again, Julian! Wishing you all the best in this next chapter! πŸ₯πŸ’œπŸ’›
