A Virginia Golf Course Review team recently visited Spotswood Country Club. Soptswood celebrate 100 years in 2026. Designed by Fred Findlay and Edmond Ault, it’s not a long course at 6451 yards from the tips. There were 5 sets of tees plus a combination set giving golfers many options. Each hole is unique and memorable, leaving the experience wanting more. Golfers will use every club in the bag. If a player can work the ball, it will be advantageous but not a strict requirement. On the whole, it is an underappreciated course that any golfer, regardless of ability will have a great experience playing.

This is a good walking course. However, the hills offer a contrarian viewpoint. Our team was was happy to play with a riding cart and got around the course briskly. Even with an examination of each hole including the teeing areas, the green and the bunkers, we finished the round closer to 3 hours than 4. A hugely enjoyable experience, requiring strategy and precision. Bring your brain to the course.

While Spotswood is a private country club, it’s accessible with the VSGA card. If you go, please tell them Virginia Golf Course Reviews sent you.
