Reasons to get your stumps removed:

Tree stumps are a safety hazard to anyone walking or playing in your yard, especially children. Along with being a tripping and toe-stubbing hazard, a tree stump can also injure someone who falls onto it.

If you had a tree removed because it was diseased, but you've decided to leave its stump, then that tree's disease could travel underground from its roots to other plants in your yard. Therefore, by not removing the stump, you're inviting the spread of disease. Also, stumps become nests/homes for insects and critters.
