Research Scientist Aleah Sommers and PhD candidate Anna Valentine joined Derek Pickell and Mathieu Morlighem from Earth & Planetary Sciences (Dartmouth Earth & Planetary Science) to visit to Ladakh, India, where they collaborated with researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) to study the thickness and dynamics of Himalayan glaciers.

They also participated in the Indian Glaciological Summer School which brought together students from all over India for an intensive two-week course based in Leh, Ladakh.

“Building any international collaboration takes time and trust. The friendships, the challenges, and the science that will come out of combining our areas of expertise are remarkably worthwhile,” said Sommers.
