PRESS RELEASE: 120 Years to Life for Stratford Predator.

On April 3, 2026, in Department 8 of the Kings County Superior Court, Defendant, Carlos Yanez Cavazos, age 54, was found guilty of multiple lewd acts against two young children, a 4-year-old and her 5-year-old sister. The crimes against both children occurred around the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025.

At the conclusion of the weeklong trial, the jury found Cavazos guilty of two counts of sexual pe*******on with a child 10 years of age or younger in violation of Penal Code Section 288.7(b); three counts of oral copulation with a child 10 years of age or younger in violation of Penal Code Section 288.7(b); and three counts of lewd acts against a child under the age of 14 years old, in violation of Penal Code Section 288(a).

The jury found true the special allegation that the lewd acts were committed against multiple victims and that the victims were particularly vulnerable.

On July 2, 2026 in Department 8 of the Kings County Superior Court, Carlos Cavazos was sentenced to 120 years to life in prison.
This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Shannon Byrne and investigated by the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.

KINGS COUNTY CRIME VICTIM’S RIGHTS WEEK

On April 14, 2026, the Kings County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution proclaiming April 19-25, 2026, as Crime Victim’s Rights Week.

Crime has a serious impact on individuals, families, and communities. It is crucial to ensure that victims are treated with fairness, dignity, and respect as they interact with the criminal justice system. Kings County District Attorney Victim Witness Program is joining forces with victim service programs, criminal justice officials, and concerned citizens throughout Kings County to raise awareness of victims’ rights and observe Crime Victim’s Rights Week. This resolution affirms the rights of crime victims, building hope for communities.
