To kill pathogens in pool water, a disinfecting agent is introduced, the most popular of which is chlorine. Chlorine reacts with the water to form hypochlorus acid which effectively kills bacteria and pathogens by destroying the lipids in the cell walls allowing the enzymes inside the cell to be destroyed through an oxidation reaction.
