A major thank you to Lauren Michael from who came to Ms. Rollinson's A1 & A3 Environmental Science classes with some beautiful Barred Owls.

Timmy (slide 1), was hit by a plow and is missing an eye and can no longer hear. This is why he is being well taken care of by the Denison Peqoutsepos Nature Center. He loves head scratches (though we weren't allowed to test that theory due to state laws 😏) and was such a good bird 😌

Onyx (slide 2), was hit by a car and now has an injured wing. Due to their inability to fly, they cannot be released and are, also, receiving amazing care by the folks at the DPNC. Onyx is new to classroom visits but did very well at keeping it cool around everyone 🥰

We are so grateful we got to learn about these beautiful birds of prey and hope for more visits from the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center in the future!

Tip from the nature center: Owls contract secondary poisoning from the rodents they eat in the wild if those rodents were exposed to rat poison. Please consider non-poisonous methods for eradicating rodents in your home to help save the birds of prey!
