Volume XI, Issue 1 10/20/2025

Our readers have probably surmised by now that we're sad, social media luddites, which means that this mid-autumn announcement --that our Spring 2025 number has been live on the interwebs since late summer--will come as no surprise. An unfortunate stretch of time to wait for the new issue, but we think it's worth your attention! You can read Volume XI here:

Volume XI, Issue 1 Rootstalk, a Prairie Journal of Culture, Science and the Arts

11/10/2021

On November 11 at 4pm (JRC 101), join a roundtable conversation on “Campus Sustainability,” with Prof. Liz Queathem, Chris Bair, Prof. Connerly and 3 student leaders. Panelists will each briefly present updates on aspects of campus sustainability, and Prof. Connerly will comment from the broader perspective of Iowa. There will be ample time for comments and questions from the audience.

We've been dark for quite some time now.

Last spring, filled with optimism, we set out on a complete re-tooling of our website. Then COVID hit and the wheels came off. Our Grinnell College home emptied out and your dedicated editors had to meet online and figure out how this shared enterprise was going to keep going. Then came the disastrous Derecho of 2020, which blasted much of Iowa back into the 19th century for over a week, as crews tried to restore power and clear away the wreckage.

We're continuing to limp along under the COVID regime. Please be patient with us; our Fall 2020 issue is waiting in the wings, and we can't wait to share it with you, as soon as our new web-presence is up and running. We think it will be worth the wait!

In the meantime, meditate on this picture of the prairie's eternal horizon--an image shared with us by Minnesota photographer, teacher and Rootstalk contributor Bruce Leventhal. Crises are fleeting; the land is eternal. We'll all get through this together.
