A current proposal by SC DHHS would DECREASE payment for speech therapy services by Medicaid providers, increase prior authorization requirements, and cause many children to have to attend shorter and more frequent sessions. This would directly impact our GLC families, as the proposed changes build more barriers for needed services. We are asking our followers to sign the petition, linked in our bio and story, to urge our state to pause this proposal and protect access to services for all kids!

Your words become your child’s inner voice.
What they hear about love, identity, and difference shapes how they see others—and themselves. 💛

✨ This , let’s shed some light on the unique challenges faced by Black autistic children. Current research suggests that a black autistic child is nearly half as likely to receive a diagnosis on their first visit to a speciality clinic as compared to other racial groups. In fact, black autistic kids typically have to wait about a year and a half longer than their white peers to receive a diagnosis. They are also much more likely to be misdiagnosed on their first visit, often with significant labels that can perpetuate harmful and inaccurate stereotypes. This delay impacts their access to vital early intervention services.

The team at GLC feels passionately about promoting healthcare equity for every child. Swipe to see some of the current stats on misdiagnosis, as well as some great resources for increasing awareness!

Often, families of autistic kids have even more difficulty than others accessing appropriate mental health services. Autistic kids often need a different approach to therapy, with flexible and neurodivergent-affirming therapists.
