The clinic has had food donated so there is now some cat and kitten food in the Blessing Box next door at the Mobile gas station.

Bobcat Fever in Cats is on the rise. It is caused by Cytauxzoon felis- a blood parasite that infects the blood cells in cats.
The natural host of this parasite is the Bocat, the infection is spread to other cats through the bite of a tick- usually the Lone Star tick, although the American Dog tick has been shown to transmit the infection also to cats.
This disease is seasonal and most active between April and September. Outdoor cats or cats that live in homes with other pets that go outdoors are at a greater risk of becoming infected.
An infected tick must feed on a cat for at least 12-36 hours to transmit the parasite.
Symptoms usually appear 1-14 days after the bite. After the incubation period, they will act lethargic and not eat well. The disease will move rapidly from this to a fever, with many catsdying 2-3 days after they get the fever.
Tick prevention is key!!!!
