Most veterans lead with their MOS or rank — and recruiters outside the military world don't always know what to do with that. Here's a message that works instead:

"Hi [Name]. I'm a transitioning [branch and rank or role]. I'm targeting [civilian title from The ROCKE] roles at [company]. My background is in [one sentence in civilian language]. Could I ask one question about how your team evaluates candidates without traditional industry experience?"

It works because it leads with the civilian role you want, names a real company, and asks for one specific thing instead of a vague "any opportunities?"
