🎆Baby, you're a firework🎆

Ahhh summer is here, the broncos are buckin', the muttons are bustin' and fireworks are boomin'.

Every year, dispatch receives hundreds... yes, I said HUNDREDS, of calls regarding fireworks. So, let's go over a few reminders as you enjoy this short clip of fireworks over Niagara Falls last summer.

🎆Know our local laws. If it leaves the ground or explodes, it is illegal in Greeley. Stick to the stuff that stays on the ground.
🎆Sparklers get hot- like REALLY hot. They burn at around 1,200°F, which is hot enough to give you a big ouchie. Just because Katy Perry says you're a firework, don't turn yourself into one.
🎆Have a "just in case" bucket. Always have a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby, you know, JUST IN CASE. Douse everything when you're done, even if it's a dud.
🎆Think of the pets. They don't care about freedom as much as their hoomans, so keep them indoors and protected from running off from fright.

💙The end of an era... or THREE eras💙

Last week, the Greeley Police Department had the honor of celebrating the well-deserved retirement of three incredible women who have been the absolute backbone of our agency for a combined total of nearly a century!

If you ever needed an official report, had paperwork processed or needed supplies over the last three decades, chances are these ladies have helped you.

Please join us in thanking and celebrating:

Jill Forsythe (9/11/1989-6/30/2026)- The sheer volume of paperwork, public requests and background data that passes through our agency daily is staggering, but Jill handled it all with precision and a steady hand. Her decades of sharp attention to detail behind the scenes have kept our department legally sound, organized and running smoothly every single day.

Mary Goheen (6/23/1994-5/15/2026)- Keeping decades of police records, court documentation and data meticulously organized is an art form. Mary has been an anchor in our Records Division, guiding the department through massive technological eras while ensuring our officers and community always had accurate information right when they needed it.

LeeAnne Unrein (6/25/1998-5/15/2026)- As our Senior Administrative Specialist, LeeAnne has been the driving force, organizational wizard and go-to problem solver for our leadership team and staff. Her institutional knowledge, sharp intuition and dedication are simply irreplaceable.

Jill, Mary, and LeeAnne: thank you for your unwavering dedication, your selflessness, and the decades you spent taking care of this department and the citizens of Greeley. We all wish you three the best as you step into your next chapters. Enjoy the sleep-ins, the travel, and the relaxation... you have more than earned it!

Some say the Stampede kicks off with the ribbon cutting ceremony, but at the GPD, we let Onyx have the final word. 🐾 She’s completed her sweeps, which means the Greeley Independence Stampede is officially underway! And of course, Odin came along for the ride. Let the fun begin!
