May Mental Health Awareness: Day 27: ANXIETY & RECOMMENDED READING

Anxiety is a natural emotional and physiological response to perceived threats or stressful situations. While it is a normal part of life and can even be helpful in certain situations (like helping you avoid danger or stay focused during an important task), anxiety can become problematic when it is excessive, persistent, or interferes with daily functioning.

Types of Anxiety -

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD):
Persistent and excessive worry about various aspects of life (e.g., health, work, finances).

Panic Disorder:
Characterized by recurrent panic attacks: sudden episodes of intense fear that peak within minutes.
May include physical symptoms like heart palpitations, chest pain, and shortness of breath.

Social Anxiety Disorder:
Intense fear of being judged, embarrassed, or humiliated in social situations.
Can lead to avoidance of social interactions or public speaking.

Phobias:
Intense fear of specific objects or situations (e.g., heights, spiders, flying) that are usually out of proportion to the actual danger.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD):
Involves unwanted, recurring thoughts (obsessions) and/or behaviors (compulsions) that the person feels compelled to repeat.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD):
Anxiety that occurs after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event.

May Mental Health Awareness: Day 23: COMPLEMENT .VS COMPETING

COLLABORATION - At His Story, we recognize that addressing mental health needs in our community is not something we can—or should—do alone. The same holds true for our colleagues and fellow mental health organizations. By working together, we can more effectively respond to the growing demand for services, make a deeper impact in the lives of our clients and their families, and build genuine, mutually beneficial relationships that lead to lasting, win-win partnerships.

This past week was another strong step forward as we continued to foster meaningful connections and explore collaborative opportunities. We want you to know: our door is always open. Let’s explore how we can complement each other’s efforts for the greater good—not as competitors, but as partners.
