When a loved one dies and debt collectors call within days, most families don't know what they actually owe.

The families with a plan do. Because their Personal Family Lawyer® already knows the estate, and already has the answers.

That's what real planning looks like.

In case you missed it:

You transfer assets in. A trustee controls them.
But you stay a discretionary beneficiary.
Assets are protected from creditors.

Distributions can still come back to you.
It is not a one-way door.

She called me six weeks after her husband died.

A credit card company had called her four days after the funeral. They told her she was responsible for forty-one thousand dollars. She was grieving, overwhelmed, and certain she had no choice. She started writing checks.

By the time she called me, she'd made three payments and signed an agreement on debt that was never legally hers to pay.

I couldn't undo those six weeks. But I could stop it from going further. And I could make sure her family understood exactly what they actually owed, which was a fraction of what the debt collectors had implied.

That's what the plan is for. Not just the documents. Having someone who already knows the estate and already knows the answers when those calls start coming.

This week's blog covers exactly what happens to each type of debt when someone dies, and what your family should know before the call comes.

The Sandwich Generation at Work
The “sandwich generation” is under pressure.

They may be raising children, building careers, supporting spouses, and now helping aging parents make major care decisions.

That pressure does not disappear when they walk into work.
It can show up as:
👉 Missed meetings
👉 Last-minute schedule changes
👉Reduced focus
👉 Burnout
👉Financial stress
👉 Career pauses

As more Baby Boomers need support, companies may need to rethink how they support employees who are also caregivers.
