Homework -by Momhive
Good afternoon momHIVE community,
I write this update email with a heavy heart, and so much compassion for the difficult season of life we're still surviving day by day. Kelli and I have decided that we will be halting all new memberships and cancelling childcare registrations at momHIVE for the time being.
While we never saw this coming, and earnestly tried to pivot to meet the challenges of COVID-19 since last March- it's no longer responsible or feasible to operate this space until social distancing restrictions are lifted and we can be together again. Governor Whitmer is still urging Michiganders to work from home and avoid office settings, and we support her leadership through this crisis.
We are SO SORRY to those of you who were looking forward to starting up with us this month. We put off the decision until the last moment, largely because we wanted to find any other solution that would keep us open.
In the spirit of full transparency, we were about to have our first profitable month in March 2020. When we first closed our doors, there wasn't a clear path forward. We were fortunate to get some financial relief from local organizations to stay afloat, but those relief funds will run out this month. So far, we have not found a way to responsibly build membership large enough to cover our costs. We are committed to following the guidelines from the Governor, and offices remain closed until further notice.
This hasn't been easy, and we have tried to outlast the pandemic in any way possible- simply because we can't wait to be together with you all again! We believe in the mission of this company, and are committed to doing our best to offer workspace for working parents as soon as we're able. We will continue to keep our community together, be a resource for you (from afar!), and eagerly look to the future.

What's your favorite fancy beverage? 🍹
It's pretty fun to try new drinks - there are so many mocktail and cocktail recipes out there!! Have you tried any new ones that you'd recommend?

"Much of this labor [childcare] has fallen to mothers, who are putting in 8 to 12 hours with their employers and then taking on the “collapsed first and second shift” of “caring for everything (and everyone) else under your own roof.”"
As we leave 2020 behind, 2021 will not be much different unless we make a significant shift in how we view ourselves as parents, employees, and people. Putting ourselves first, making our work a priority, and calling on others for help must be part of the agenda for this year or we will continue to burn out and drop out at alarming rates.
Let's navigate this together as a community at homeWORK by momHIVE.
