A historic June heatwave has shattered temperature records across Europe, with daytime temperatures exceeding 40°C in multiple countries. A new report by the World Weather Attribution group concluded that the extreme temperatures—which have claimed dozens of lives and strained infrastructure—would have been "virtually impossible" half a century ago without human-caused climate change.
Scientists found that intense heat episodes are escalating rapidly, making events of this scale hundreds of times more likely than just a few decades ago.

A sobering new report by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) warns that 266 million people across 13 global hotspots face worsening hunger between June and November 2026.
Conflict, economic instability, and climate risks are driving the crisis, with Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen, Palestine, Nigeria, and Somalia facing the highest risk of catastrophic famine. Compounding the emergency is a 59% drop in humanitarian funding over the last few years, leaving agencies with only a third of the required resources and forcing impossible choices about who receives aid.
