Meet Blake.
Blake was adopted from us back in 2021. On Tuesday, we received a call from a local shelter informing us that Blake had been found as a stray. When they contacted his owner, they were told they no longer wanted him.
We immediately had to scramble to find somewhere safe for Blake to go. At that moment, we had no information about his current temperament, medical needs, behavior around other animals, or any changes that may have occurred over the last several years. Thankfully, our amazing trainer stepped up and was able to pick him up. Blake has been settling in with her over the last two days while we work through the next steps.
This situation is incredibly disappointing and heartbreaking.
If you can no longer keep your dog, abandoning them and leaving a shelter to contact the rescue years later is not an appropriate way to handle the situation. We understand that life circumstances change, and sometimes difficult decisions must be made. However, responsible pet ownership means reaching out for help and communicating before a crisis occurs.
Because we received no information from his previous owner, we are now starting from square one. Blake will need veterinary care, updated vaccinations, evaluations, and time for us to learn about his needs so we can determine the best placement for him moving forward. This takes time, resources, and funding that could have been better planned for had we been contacted directly.
The good news is that Blake is safe. ❤️
We are grateful to our trainer for stepping up on such short notice and to everyone who supports our rescue mission. We are committed to giving him the care, patience, and second chance he deserves. 🐾
