Outside Pocket

Next Friday, Outside Pocket will give a free concert at Archival Brewing. We’ll be playing 6-9pm on September 13 as a trio featuring Gary Mccourry on saxes, Steve Talaga on piano, and me (Greg Scheer) on bass. It’s always a pleasure to play with these two–they are among the finest jazz musicians in Grand Rapids and lovely human beings, too.

It’s been a while since we’ve played a public gig, so I’m excited to share some new music and play favorites from Grace Notes. We’ll also include a number of jazz standards.

I have tentative plans to record a jazz album for kids in the next year or two. I'm going to try out some of the songs at Living Stones Academy today as part of their "Music in March" program. I plan to ask the students what topics they'd want to hear about on an album. If things go *really* well, we'll actually write a new song! Here is a quick demo of one of the songs I've already completed.
