Can you believe it’s April already? 2025 has been off to a busy start & I’ve been working on creating a better work/life balance.
My husband & I welcomed our first baby girl into the world last November & I could go on & on of course, but I'll simply leave it at...she is the best! 😊 Being someone who works from home, I’m so grateful to be able to be with her every day & still work, but it’s a challenge accomplishing much when there’s a cute, tiny human who relies on you 24/7. We’re making it work, but I’ve definitely had to readjust & be okay with the fact that work is no longer the priority. To be honest, it was hard at first because my work is something I'm extremely passionate about & it's also my creative outlet.
With all of that being said, I’ve switched gears this year into photographing for food bloggers & I LOVE it! I have found so much fulfillment in connecting with other small female businesses & helping their blog posts/recipes stand out. Getting to be a taste tester for all of these amazing recipes isn’t so bad, either. 😉
Here are some images that I’ve particularly been proud of recently. Do you have a favorite?
I hope you’re all having a wondering start to spring! 🌷
Splash shots are always messy & (almost) always worth it! There's no better feeling than nailing a splash shot where all the little splashes are in crystal clear focus.
Here were my settings for this shot: I used a flash so my shutter speed was set at 1/200 s. My aperture was f/4.5, & my ISO was 100. I used my Nikon z7ii with a NIKKOR Z 24-70 mm f2.8S lens.

Interested in learning more about artificial light? Now is the perfect time since the days are so short. Don't let natural light control when you can & can't shoot...check out my ebook all about transitioning from natural to artificial light here: https://creatingkaitlin.myshopify.com/
I placed a black card to the right of my scene to block any additional light & create more dramatic shadows because I wanted the image to be darker/moodier! You can find black card stock pretty much anywhere. I picked mine up from Hobby Lobby!
A quick behind the scenes look at these gingerbread bars (recipe from Butternut Bakery).
I chose to use my continuous light for this shot. All of my equipment/lights can be found here: https://creatingkaitlin.com/2022/11/30/my-artificial-light-equipment/
