We’re excited to celebrate the ribbon cutting for the new student housing project at Montcalm Community College
This project represents an important new chapter for MCC and its students by creating a place that supports campus life, connection, independence, and community. Designed around a unique village-style housing model, the new residence hall was thoughtfully planned to balance privacy and social interaction while helping students feel more connected to campus and each other.
From shared commons and study spaces to connections with the surrounding landscape and trail systems, every part of the project was shaped around the student experience and what it means to feel at home while learning and growing.
We’re grateful to collaborate with Montcalm Community College and the entire project team on a space that will welcome its first students in 2026. Looking forward to celebrating this milestone together!

Some projects change the way you think about design. This was one of them.
Working with Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI) challenged our team to think beyond traditional ideas of accessibility and instead ask a deeper question: how can a space truly make everyone feel welcome, supported, and included?
What began as a vacant, fragmented school building became a bright, intuitive, and deeply collaborative environment shaped directly by athletes, families, staff, and the broader SOMI community. From tactile wayfinding and sensory-conscious design decisions to inclusive gathering spaces and thoughtful circulation, every part of the building was guided by real conversations and lived experiences.
One of the most meaningful parts of this process was realizing how much there was to learn. Inclusive design is not about checking a box—it’s about listening, adapting, and designing alongside the people who will use the space every day.
This project reminded us that architecture has the power to remove barriers, create dignity, and help people feel seen. We’re incredibly grateful to have been part of a project that means so much to so many.
Take a look inside the story behind the SOMI headquarters and the people who shaped it.
