Most will think the grinder is the biggest hazard in this photo. It isn't. The biggest hazard is what happens if your hands aren't properly protected while performing this task.

Grinding exposes your hands to multiple hazards all at once—flying sparks, hot metal, sharp edges, abrasive surfaces, vibration, and the constant need to maintain a secure grip on your tool.

The question isn't simply, Is the worker wearing gloves? The better question is: Is the worker wearing the proper gloves for this job?

The best gloves aren't necessarily the thickest gloves. They're the gloves that provides the right level of protection without sacrificing the control and dexterity needed to perform the task safely.

Gloves that are too bulky can reduce your feel for the tool.

Gloves with poor grip can make controlling the grinder more difficult.

Gloves that aren't designed for abrasive work may wear through long before the job is complete.

And gloves that are damaged or worn out may no longer provide the protection you expect.

That's why glove selection should always be based on the hazards of the task; not convenience, price, or habit.
