Fireworks season is here… are your pets ready?

Every year, thousands of pets go missing after becoming frightened by fireworks. Even the calmest dog can panic when startled by loud explosions. If this is your pet’s first Fourth of July, don’t assume they’ll be okay, it’s always better to prepare than react.

Here are a few simple steps that could save your pet’s life:

🦸‍♂️ Secure your fences and gates – Check for loose boards, gaps, or places your pet could escape.

🏷️ Keep collars on and ID tags updated – Double-check that your contact information is current. If your pet is microchipped, make sure the registration is up to date.

💊 Refill anxiety medications early – If your veterinarian has prescribed medication, don’t wait until the last minute.

🏡 Keep pets indoors – Bring them inside before fireworks begin and never leave them outside unattended.

🎵 Create a safe space – Close windows and curtains, turn on the TV, music, or a fan to help drown out the noise, and let them stay somewhere they feel secure.

🚪 Be extra careful opening doors – Frightened pets can bolt in seconds when guests are coming and going.

🚶 Walk dogs before dark – Exercise them early and avoid evening walks when fireworks may begin unexpectedly.
