THRILL TO A SILENT MOVIE FESTIVAL OF CHARLIE CHAPLIN AND BUSTER KEATON SHORTS, ACCOMPANIED BY LIVE ORGAN MUSIC IN GLEN RIDGE SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 16 AT 5 PM
As part of the Glen Ridge Community Concerts, delight to a Silent Film Festival on Sunday, November 16 at 5 pm with live organ accompaniment by Minister of Music Thomas Mustachio at the Glen Ridge Congregational Church, UCC. Perfect for film lovers of all ages, Mustachio will improvise on the newly-renovated and expanded church organ as two classic silents play. The program consists of Charlie Chaplin's movie, "A Dog's Life," (1918( written, directed and starring Chaplin, along with co-star Scraps the Dog, who helps him elude the bad guys and get the girl of his dreams, a dance hall beauty played by Edna Purviance. This 33-minute short film is filled with his trademark whimsy and riotous slapstick, and is the only film in which Chaplin's brother Sydney also appeared, in a small role. The second film, "Sherlock Jr." (1924) is a 45-minute caper directed and starring Buster Keaton which includes amazing early special effects, his own breathtaking stunt work, and a dream sequence that went on to inspire future filmmakers for decades. Both movies have been acclaimed by film historians, but it's a rare opportunity for you to see and hear them live in concert!
Tickets are $10 for children and students, $20 for seniors, and $25 for adults and are available at www.GlenRidgeConcerts.org. Glen Ridge Congregational Church, UCC is located at 195 Ridgewood Avenue in Glen Ridge, New Jersey.
