When sorting your laundry you’ll also want to sort it by material. You may already do this to a certain extent. We all have to keep an eye out for our wool sweaters to make sure we keep them out of the dryer!
But you may want to pay just as much attention to the rest of your clothes. Have you ever spent time looking at the material and care instructions on the tags of all your clothes? They are detailed and they’re there for a reason. See if you can group similar care instructions, and you’ll not only get your clothes cleaner, but have them lasting longer as well. And don’t forget common sense: keep linty fabrics like flannel and terrycloth separate.
You may also want to consider drying time. A cotton t-shirt certainly won’t take as long in the dryer as jeans or towels, so consider putting lighter garments in a separate dryer, so you can start folding them while your other clothes finish drying.

Pre-treat super dirty and sweaty clothes.

For clothes that accumulate stains or strong odors—like activewear or your favorite cooking clothes—give them a pre-treat soak in detergent and water before washing.
