The FCYS Wind/Brass/Percussion auditions will take place on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at Floyd Central High School in the Band Room between [2:00-4:00] or during your pre-scheduled Indiana All-State Band Audition slot.

-- If you are already planning to audition for Indiana All-State Band, you do not need to sign up for a separate audition slot time. During your All-State Band audition, just let them know you are also wishing to audition for Floyd County Youth Symphony. You would then only need to audition one time. On the sign up genius, there is a special spot to sign up if you already have an All-State audition time and are wishing to audition for both.
--If you are not planning to audition for Indiana All-State Band, then you will need to sign up for an individual time slot from the link listed above.

*If you cannot make any of the scheduled audition times or if a situation arises in which you will need to miss your scheduled audition time - please contact Jenny Casey at [email protected]. In these certain circumstances we will accept a recorded video audition.

📝 GENERAL INFORMATION: 📝

To be accepted into Floyd County Youth Symphony, all students must take private lessons on the instrument that they will play in FCYS. Students must be enrolled in their school's band or orchestra if it is offered.

Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings at Floyd Central High School from 6:00-8:00 pm. Students will have the opportunity to perform in 2 concerts.
1. Spring Concert: March 2, 2026 [7:00 pm] at IUS Ogle Center [Free concert to the public]
2. Final Concert: May 4, 2026 [3:00 pm] at Highland Hills Middle School

Membership fees for the 2026 season are: $120
(Fees will be due January 12th, at the time of the first rehearsal):

🚨AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: 🚨
1. Two Assigned Scales:
1. B-Flat Major
2. C Major
2. [60-90] Seconds of a solo of the student's choice.
3. Be prepared to sight read.

-OR-

You may audition with the Indiana All-State Band Tryout Music. If you are auditioning for All-State Band, you will NOT need to do anything more in addition or audition separately.

***There is a $25 nonrefundable audition fee for students auditioning for the Philharmonic Orchestra. The fee must be paid at the time of audition and is a requirement for membership. (We can only accept cash/check payments)

Floyd County Youth Symphony will be holding string auditions next week! [August 18-August 21] We are so excited to kick off the 2025-2026 season and hear all the hard work our students have put into preparing for auditions. It is not too late to sign up - there are still plenty of audition slots open.

Please help us spread the word and share with your fellow musicians, friends, and family. The Floyd County Youth Symphony is an excellent opportunity for student musicians of all ages and skill levels to grow and develop their musical abilities.

FCYS will look slightly different this year, with 2 orchestra groups available to students. Our new group (Prelude Orchestra) is a multi-level ensemble designed to maximize individual student growth and prepare students for our more advanced group. Our Philharmonic Orchestra is designed to challenge the more advanced student and provide a full orchestra experience that pushes the boundaries of the normal high school orchestra experience. FCYS is also branching out this year, providing a more inclusive environment for rehearsals, concert and audition locations.

GENERAL AUDITITION INFORMATION:

To be accepted into the Floyd County Youth Symphony, all students must be enrolled in their school orchestra, if orchestra is offered. Students auditioning for the Philharmonic Orchestra must be taking private lessons on the instrument that they will play in FCYS. Students auditioning for the Prelude Orchestra are strongly encouraged to have a private instructor, but one is not required.

The Prelude Orchestra will rehearse 6:00-7:00 pm on Monday evenings. The Philharmonic Orchestra will rehearse 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday evenings. For the first semester - all rehearsals will be held at New Albany High School. For the second semester - all rehearsals will be held at Floyd Central High School.

AUDITION DATES:

Each audition date will be held at a different NAFCS middle school (Orchestra Room), for location and transportation convenience. All students are welcome to audition on any day, regardless of where they go to school or what instrument they play. There will be time slots for both Prelude & Philharmonic on each audition date.
