As a photographer, i LOVE LEDs and blacklight sources! As a low/no budget videographer, i HATE both with a passion. Especially when having both at the same time.

Earlier this year, i wasblown away by the wildly vivid visual styles of metal merchants Project Mayhem AD . I was excited to shoot their set, but was kicked in the nuts when i reviewed the footage the next day. The UV smears skin tones, esp when that skin is thrashing the stage. In order to make any video useable, i had to mute the hues, which is very uneven and heavy-handed with LED light sources, and i wasnt very happy with the results. I wanted visuals that matched the volcanic energy of the band's music, and the photographer in me was determined to get details and clarify. So when i found out that these guys were coming back to the Green Room, i rolled up my sleeves and prepared to do a much better job this time around

Shooting a metal band kicking ass with no spotlight, just UV and LED backlights AND a fog machine is never going to be easy. But i learned a few things, and can't wait to share clips on The Georgetown Rocks this coming week!
