After closing Monday and Tuesday due to the extreme heat and swimming being closed, the Pentucket Pop-Up is open today—and swimming is safe!

Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m reaching out as the School Resource Officer for the
Georgetown Public Schools to bring to your attention a growing concern we have been seeing among students in the middle school.
Recently, there has been a significant increase in inappropriate activity within group chats created in IMessage and on platforms such as Snapchat. Students are frequently adding others to these group chats without consent, sharing inappropriate images, and using offensive language, and at times racially charged language.
These actions not only disrupt the learning environment at school, but can also have serious
emotional and disciplinary consequences. While I am working with administration to address
these issues, I strongly urge parents and guardians to have a conversation with your child about responsible digital behavior. I also encourage you to regularly monitor your child’s phone and app usage, including group chats on social media platforms.
Additionally, I encourage all parents to take some time to familiarize themselves with how these apps work, particularly Snapchat, which includes features that make content hidden within the app. Understanding how these platforms function can help you better guide your child and recognize concerning behavior early.
The Georgetown Police Department has some helpful resources available on our website,
including guides on app specific parental controls and safety. These resources can assist in
navigating these conversations with your child.
Lastly, I would like to invite you to a parent social media night on Thursday May 1, 2025 at
6:30pm, at GMHS where I will discuss social media awareness for parents and give a walk
through on setting up parental controls for specific apps.
