Please be cautious over the next four days - our region is set to experience extreme heat with indexes exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Our responders have already responded to at least three heat-related medical calls in the last 24 hours, and the heat index is set to increase by upwards of 20 degrees since those emergencies.

All community members should make sure to drink plenty of hydrating fluids (balancing water and electrolytes) and limit time in the sun when possible. While we know it is a busy holiday weekend, we encourage all to celebrate responsibly so that no one chances heat exhaustion, heat stroke, or dehydration.

We would like to congratulate White Springs Firefighter Matt Alexander for completing the Surface Water Rescue course last week.

Thank you to Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department and Ontario County for hosting this training and for all partners who helped to put it on to ensure all area firefighters have access to great training opportunities.

Over the past three days, the Cheshire Fire Department hosted the New York State Surface Water Rescue course, bringing together firefighters from departments across Ontario County for valuable classroom instruction and hands-on training.

Firefighters trained in scene size-up and risk assessment, self-rescue techniques, victim retrieval, throw bag operations, boat-based rescues, rope systems, proper use of personal protective equipment, and coordinated team operations.

Training like this ensures our members are prepared to respond safely and effectively to water emergencies while strengthening the partnerships that make mutual aid successful.

A special thank you to the instructors, all participating firefighters, and the Canandaigua City School District Aquatics Department for allowing us to utilize the high school pool for a portion of the hands-on training. We appreciate your support in helping us provide this valuable training opportunity.
