Due to the forecasted severe weather conditions this evening in Garland, today’s Outdoor Warning System (siren) test is CANCELED. Although today’s audible test has been canceled, please note that the Office of Emergency Management conducts silent tests of the Outdoor Warning System daily.

As a reminder, citizens are not expected to hear these sirens from inside a house or building. Their primary purpose is to move citizens indoors to Seek Shelter, Shut Doors/Windows, and Seek Information.

Activation criteria for use of the Outdoor Warning System:

The National Weather Service issues a Garland area Tornado Warning or Severe Thunderstorm Warning with destructive winds at or above 70 mph

Trained storm spotters have reported a tornado with the potential to affect the City of Garland

Hail of 1.75 inches (golf ball size) in diameter is imminent

Deemed necessary by City of Garland officials
