Whew! It’s been a busy spring! Gravel rides and races including supporting my husband through 206 miles of Unbound fun. ( me in a jeep, him on a bike 😉). Nieces graduation 😍. Bonus daughter’s surprise birthday and engagement that we were so thrilled to be invited to😍😍.
Even survived my 4th half Ironman. In my 30’s and 40’s I would have raced on Sunday worked a full week and followed it up with a 12 hour seminar the following weekend. This decade of life I’m trying to do a little better of “practicing what I preach”. Roo and I are taking a self care day. Which according to him is a long walk, extra treats and long nap day.
Super grateful to have Sara and Dr. Kristine taking great care of all our patients needs.
Dr. Kristine is in the office from 8 to 2 today. She would love to be a part of your self care today. Have a great weekend everyone! See ya Monday!

Histamine Intolerance Is Not Always About What You Eat

Why do symptoms seem to come and go without a clear pattern?
Histamine intolerance can show up as headaches, skin flare-ups, digestive issues, brain fog, or anxiety, but the root issue is not always the food itself. Your body has to properly process and break down histamine, and that process is connected to gut health, genetics, inflammation, stress, sleep, and environmental triggers. The doctors at Root Function Health look at the bigger picture so symptoms are not reduced to one simple food list.

Altered Composition of Gut Microbiota in Depression: A Systematic Review 06/08/2026

Spotlight 🎦

The gut and brain are in constant communication through what is known as the gut–brain axis — a bidirectional network involving the nervous system, immune system, and microbial metabolites produced in the gastrointestinal tract.

Because of this connection, researchers continue to explore how gut health may relate to mood, cognition, and overall brain function.

One way we evaluate gut health clinically is through comprehensive stool analysis. This type of testing looks at factors such as microbial diversity, digestion, absorption markers, inflammation, and the presence of opportunistic organisms that may influence gastrointestinal balance.

Systematic reviews have identified differences in gut microbiota composition in individuals with depression compared to healthy controls, supporting ongoing research into the gut–brain axis.

While research is still evolving, a stool analysis can provide helpful insight into gastrointestinal function and microbial balance as part of a broader clinical picture.

The gut plays a key role in producing metabolites such as short-chain fatty acids, which are involved in immune regulation, gut barrier integrity, and signaling pathways that communicate with the brain.

Rather than a single cause-and-effect relationship, gut health appears to reflect a complex interaction between diet, environment, microbiota, and host physiology.

For those interested in a more detailed look at digestive function and gut microbial balance, we offer comprehensive stool testing in clinic, along with individualized nutrition and supplement recommendations when appropriate. Call (913) 856-4595 to schedule your appointment!
