Major update. Last week, Police Officer Jeffrey L. Smith's death was ruled to be line of duty. The District of Columbia ruled that Jeff died as "a sole and direct consequence" of the injuries he suffered defending the United States Capitol on January 6th. He died days later. The decision not only is important to Jeff's widow and his family, but to all the future widows, widowers, children and family who will be able to rely on this decision going forward. Put simply, mental injury and TBIs, while invisible, are very real.
