Happy National Freezer Pop Day!

Is there a better holiday to celebrate ten days before our Consumer Olympics and Family Picnic? We think not.

This year at the Olympics, we are not just bringing an ice cream truck. We will also have dairy-free frozen treats on hand, so everyone has something to enjoy no matter their preference.

Mark your calendar and come celebrate with us! Our 18th Annual Consumer Olympics and Family Picnic is Saturday, July 18th from 10am to 2pm at Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda. Free and open to families, friends, and supporters of CSS. Rain or shine!

🌳 Explore Nature Together with Trail Trekkers! 🚶‍♀️🌿

We love sharing resources that are built with our community in mind, and Trail Trekkers from Montgomery Parks is a great one!

Trail Trekkers is a free, 6-week inclusive walking series designed for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, along with their friends, family, and community members. Each walk is about one mile on paved trails, led by a Master Naturalist, and is a great way to get outside, enjoy nature, and make new connections.

Walks are held on Tuesdays from 10:30am to 11:30am at Wheaton Regional Park and Brookside Gardens. Remaining dates for the summer are July 10th, 14th, and 21st.

🌳 ¡Explora la naturaleza con Trail Trekkers! 🚶‍♀️🌿

Nos encanta compartir recursos pensados para nuestra comunidad, y Trail Trekkers de Montgomery Parks es uno excelente!

Trail Trekkers es una serie de caminatas inclusivas y gratuitas de 6 semanas, disenada para personas con discapacidades intelectuales y del desarrollo, junto con sus amigos, familiares y miembros de la comunidad. Cada caminata es de aproximadamente una milla en senderos pavimentados, guiada por un Naturalista, y es una gran manera de salir al aire libre, disfrutar la naturaleza y hacer nuevas amistades.

Las caminatas se realizan los martes de 10:30am a 11:30am en Wheaton Regional Park y Brookside Gardens. Las fechas restantes del verano son el 10, 14 y 21 de julio.

Looking for something special to do this Sunday?

Montgomery Parks is hosting a Sensory-Friendly Butterfly Experience at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, and it sounds like a wonderful morning!

The experience is designed for visitors with sensory sensitivities, with limited capacity and natural lighting to keep things calm and comfortable. Families can explore at their own pace, enjoy the magic of butterflies flying all around, and maybe even have one land on them. Fidgets will be provided and staff will be on hand throughout.

Sunday, July 12th from 9am to 10am

Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallan Avenue, Wheaton, MD

Ages 13 and up: $15.99 | Ages 3 to 12: $10.99 | Under 3: Free

Happy National Grill Safety Day!

With the 4th of July weekend right around the corner, we want to wish everyone a fun and safe holiday. Whether you are firing up the grill, watching fireworks, or spending time with people you love, we hope it is a great one.

And since it is Grill Safety Day, here are a few quick reminders before you fire things up this weekend. Keep your grill at least ten feet away from your house or any structures. Never leave it unattended while it is lit. Make sure to clean out any grease buildup before you get started, and always keep a fire extinguisher nearby just in case. If you have a gas grill, open the lid before lighting it so gas does not build up underneath.

Stay safe, stay cool, and enjoy the long weekend. Happy Fourth of July from all of us at CSS!

Feliz Dia Nacional de Seguridad en la Parrilla!

Con el fin de semana del 4 de julio a la vuelta de la esquina, queremos desearles a todos unas fiestas divertidas y seguras. Ya sea que esten asando a la parrilla, viendo fuegos artificiales, o pasando tiempo con personas que aman, esperamos que sea un gran fin de semana.

Y ya que es el Dia de Seguridad en la Parrilla, aqui van algunos recordatorios rapidos. Mantengan la parrilla al menos tres metros de su casa o cualquier estructura. Nunca la dejen sola mientras este encendida. Limpien la grasa acumulada antes de comenzar y tengan un extintor cerca por si acaso. Si tienen una parrilla de gas, abran la tapa antes de encenderla para que el gas no se acumule.

Mantenganse seguros, frescos, y disfruten el fin de semana largo. Feliz 4 de julio de parte de todos en CSS!

With extreme temperatures in the forecast over the next few days, it's important to take extra precautions when spending time outdoors.

Here are a few simple ways to stay safe:
💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
🧢 Wear lightweight clothing and protect yourself from the sun.
🌳 Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning whenever possible.
🏖️ If you can, cool off at a pool or the beach while practicing water safety.
👀 Check in on family, friends, neighbors, and pets to make sure they're staying cool too.

Some of us recently enjoyed a fun trip to Ocean City, where we soaked up the sunshine, made lasting memories, and found the perfect way to cool off by the ocean! 🌊☀️

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the summer responsibly!

Today is National Food Truck Day, a celebration of all the fun and flavor that comes from a truck on wheels. From ice cream to tacos to everything in between, food trucks bring people together in a way that just feels festive.

That is exactly the energy we are looking forward to at our Consumer Olympics and Family Picnic! Just like last year, we will have an ice cream truck on site for our athletes and families to enjoy after a day of games and fun in the sun.

There is something about hearing that truck pull up that gets everyone excited, no matter your age.

Hoy es el Dia Nacional del Food Truck, una celebracion de toda la diversion y sabor que viene de un camion sobre ruedas. Desde helado hasta tacos y todo lo demas, los food trucks reunen a las personas de una manera que se siente festiva.

Happy National Catfish Day! 🎣

While today celebrates one of America's most popular freshwater fish, it's also a great opportunity to highlight organizations helping people of all abilities experience the joy of fishing and the outdoors.

That's why we're shining a spotlight on Lucky and Blessed Fishing (LABF), a Maryland nonprofit dedicated to building community, wellness, and belonging through inclusive fishing experiences.

This summer, LABF is offering FREE Fishing Camps for All Ages and Abilities, where participants can fish from boats, kayaks, and shorelines while learning about the Chesapeake Bay watershed and enjoying time outdoors.

Scholarship opportunities are available through an application on their website.

Aunque hoy celebra a uno de los peces de agua dulce más populares de Estados Unidos, también es una excelente oportunidad para destacar organizaciones que ayudan a personas de todas las capacidades a disfrutar de la pesca y las actividades al aire libre.

Por eso queremos destacar a Lucky and Blessed Fishing (LABF), una organización sin fines de lucro de Maryland dedicada a fomentar la comunidad, el bienestar y el sentido de pertenencia a través de experiencias inclusivas de pesca.

Este verano, LABF ofrece Campamentos de Pesca GRATUITOS para Todas las Edades y Capacidades, donde los participantes pueden pescar desde botes, kayaks y la orilla mientras aprenden sobre la cuenca de la Bahía de Chesapeake y disfrutan de la naturaleza.

Happy Swim a Lap Day! 🌊🏊‍♂️

Today is Swim a Lap Day, a fun reminder to get in the water, get moving, and enjoy everything swimming has to offer. It is great exercise, it is relaxing, and honestly it is just fun.

We are throwing it back to last year's Ocean City trip, when some of the people we support headed out to the beach and made the most of the waves. Swimming is one of those activities that brings so much joy no matter your age or ability, and these photos capture exactly that.

As it happens, some of us are actually in Ocean City again right now for this year's trip! We cannot wait to share new photos once they are back, but for today, we are happy to look back on these great memories.☀️🏖️

¡Feliz Día de Nadar un Largo! 🌊🏊‍♂️

Hoy es el Dia para Nadar un Largo, un buen recordatorio para meterse al agua, moverse, y disfrutar todo lo que la natacion ofrece. Es buen ejercicio, es relajante, y sinceramente es muy divertido.

Hoy recordamos el viaje a Ocean City del año pasado, cuando algunas de las personas que apoyamos fueron a la playa y disfrutaron las olas. Nadar es una de esas actividades que trae mucha alegria sin importar la edad o habilidad, y estas fotos lo demuestran.

De hecho, algunos de nuestros individuos estan en Ocean City en este momento para el viaje de este año! No podemos esperar a compartir las nuevas fotos cuando regresen, pero por ahora nos encanta recordar estos buenos momentos. ☀️🏖️
