🙏 What's the difference between a coalition and a community?

Pastor Joshua is drawing on an essay by Bernice Johnson Reagan this week to help us think through exactly that. In a coalition, we're all moving toward the same goal — but with competing interests, and not everyone gets everything they want. In community, we move together. Maybe slowly. Maybe not as fast as we'd hoped. But together — with everyone's needs treated as sacred.

That's the model Christ sets for us every single day. A God who withholds no good thing and treats every need we bring as the most important thing in the world. 🌱

This week, Pastor Joshua passes the mic to a special guest as we kick off our summer series Building Beloved Community — Rev. Justin Johnson, Executive Pastor of Saint Paul Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee.

Rev. Justin brings us two reasons we need community: first, to support us when times get rough — because trouble will come, and we need people to help us push through. And second, to sharpen us — to hold us accountable and help us grow into who God has called us to be.
