Alachua County Emergency Management

We're watching the cluster of thunderstorms and that low-pressure system sitting off the west coast of Florida. As we go into the weekend, here is what you should know:
Whether this system officially develops into a tropical depression, or just fizzles into nothing, it is going to bring a lot of rain our way. Expect an increase in daily showers, heavy downpours, and stormy weather starting this weekend and stretching into early next week.
Right now, the NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center gives this system a low chance of tropical development over the next two days and a bit more as we go into next week. It's moving slowly, so we have plenty of time to watch it.
Local Impacts:
There is a marginal risk for localized flooding rainfall on Sunday and Monday.
Because this system is slow-moving, repeated downpours could lead to isolated instances of flash flooding, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
With this coming through, it will help with our ongoing long-term drought conditions
What you can do:
Consider making indoor plans for Sunday and Monday if you want to avoid the stormy weather.
If you live in a flood-prone area, just keep an eye out and review your usual heavy-rain precautions. Never drive through flooded roadways.
Stay informed by following official, reliable updates at hurricanes.gov and weather.gov/jax
We will keep you up to date if anything changes.
