KACB remains committed to addressing reported graffiti throughout Alachua County with many cases occurring in Gainesville. Thanks to partnerships with local agencies, businesses, volunteers and residents we've removed more than 3,000 square feet of graffiti so far this year.

Graffiti is more than just an eyesore, it can contribute to a perception of neglect and encourage additional vandalism. That's why we work to respond as quickly as possible while also using repurposed materials whenever we can to support sustainability.

A huge thank you to our volunteers, community partners and residents who help keep our neighborhoods clean and welcoming!

This morning, KACB conducted an illegal dumpsite and creek cleanup after receiving a report from a concerned resident in Southeast Gainesville.

After obtaining permission from the property owner to access the site, KACB removed approximately 165 pounds of litter and illegally discarded debris from a section of Sweetwater Branch Creek, including 11 tires and two televisions. The cleanup helped restore the natural area and improve habitat conditions for the wildlife that depends on the creek.

Unfortunately, this site is just one example of the many illegal dumping locations found throughout our community and marks the beginning of a broader effort to address these environmental impacts. We are grateful to residents who help by reporting problem areas and serving as our eyes and ears in the community. If you witness illegal dumping in progress, please contact your local law enforcement agency.

A special thank you to our partners, the City of Gainesville and Alachua County, for their continued support and collaboration. Together, we are making a difference and working toward a cleaner, healthier and more beautiful community for all!

To help prevent fires in natural areas and at waste facilities, where discarded v**es and other battery powered smoking devices are increasingly being found, KACB is now serving as a free drop off location for these items to be responsibly disposed of.

While conventional cigarette butts remain the most littered item in the world, electronic ci******es and va**ng devices are becoming more common in our environment. These items are not conventional trash, they are considered hazardous waste and require careful handling and proper disposal.

Many of these devices contain lithium-ion batteries that can start dangerous fires if damaged or improperly discarded. These fires are often difficult to extinguish and may release toxic gases, threatening sanitation workers, waste collection vehicles, facilities and the community.

Please do not place these items in your household trash or recycling for collection. Instead, residents may bring them to KACB during business hours for a free drop off or take them directly to Leveda Brown Environmental Park’s Hazardous Waste Department for proper disposal.

If you or someone you know has a v**e or battery operated smoking device that needs to be disposed of responsibly, we encourage you to take advantage of these safe disposal options.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please send us a message. Together, we can help protect our environment and our neighbors.
