Northeast Georgia's newest city will be holding its first-ever public festival this weekend, and it will also offer a chance for city residents to give input on its comprehensive plan.

The City of Mulberry in Gwinnett County will host the first-ever Mulberry Jam Festival from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Duncan Creek Park on Braselton Highway. There will be food, live music, retail vendors and other activities. Among those activities will be the opportunity for citizens to give input on the city's comprehensive plan.

Lauren West, public information officer for the city, said the comprehensive plan served as the long-range policy guide for the city's future planning and growth.

Union County authorities are warning residents about scam messages that claim their Social Security Number has been suspended.

The Sheriff's Office said in a social media post that residents have reported receiving documents that claim their Social Security Number has been suspended, that criminal charges have been filed against them, or that they must immediately contact a government office to avoid arrest or other consequences. Authorities say the documents are fraudulent and are designed to create fear and urgency to convince victims to provide personal information or send money.

Officers are reminding the public that government agencies do not suspend Social Security Numbers or demand money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or personal information over the phone. The public should never provide personal, financial or identifying information to anyone unless they have verified who they are speaking to.
