El Cookie Rookie - Gainesville

Coming out as Bisexual is one of the best decisions I’ve made. I can stand a little taller, and breathe a little easier. Relationships, although still a struggle for me, improved significantly. I wasn’t walking on eggshells anymore fearing that I’ll “out” myself and lose close friends. Don’t get me wrong, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that it hurts when people treat you differently, or reject you. It can be frustrating and discouraging at times but it makes you appreciate those special people in your life that love you for you.  

Pride month, to me, has always been a celebration of being your most authentic self and living an honest life. We can all identify with struggling to be honest about a secret that we fear will get us kicked out, or lose status, in our tribe. It can be a career change, leaving an unhappy relationship,, or even coming out of the closet. Whatever it is, it's better to endure the temporary pain of rejection than a lifetime of regret.

One of the quotes that comforts me when I'm afraid of failing, or embarrassing myself, when taking risks is "The brave don't live forever but the cautious don't live at all. The only thing that's truly terrifying is the unlived life."
